Around the World in Four Orchestras at Accademia Santa Cecilia

Around the world in four orchestras

This September, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, one of the oldest musical institutions in the world, will open its doors to orchestras from around the world in a four part concert series.

The mini music festival will feature youth orchestras from Qatar, Mexico, the Bahia state in Brazil and Turkey. Lead by major conductors and guest artists, the orchestras will showcase talented musicians, some as young as 15.

The Qatar Philharmonic Ochestra will begin the series on September 9th by performing western classics by Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, lead by conductor Han-Na Chang with Boris Berezovskij on piano. UNAM, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico, will follow on September 12th with pieces by Mexican and Danish composers, and will feature the “Concierto de Aranjuez” by the well-known Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo.

On September 15th, accompanied by the famous Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich, the Symphonic Orchestra of Bahia will combine a classic of pianoforte by Tchaikovsky with a contemporary piece from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. And finally, the series will conclude on September 29th with Turkey’s National Youth Philharmonic, an orchestra of 100 talented young musicians, conducted by founder Cem Mansur. This month expand your musical horizons with the “Around the World in Four Orchestras” concerts and experience performances by the talented international youth orchestras at the Academia di Santa Cecilia.
