This exhibition at Complesso del Vittoriano tells the story of the incredible life of the doll who has played out the aesthetic and cultural transformations that have marked more than half a century of history. Unlike the other contemporaneous myths worn out by the passing of time, Barbie has had the privilege to be timeless. She represents 50 different nationalities, crosses distant eras and lands bolstering her status as a legend and above all, is an icon of fashion and a reflection of time.
The exhibition comprises of five sections and is preceded by an introductory room called “Simply Barbie”, which contains eight iconic dolls representing each decade from 1959 to the present time, in addition to a timeline, fun facts, numbers and the global making of Barbie so that visitors will instantly know who Barbie really is.
Further into the exhibition you can see Barbies modeled after famous celebrities such as Jenifer Lopez, Madonna, Shakira, Audrey Hepburn and more. Inside you can also find a life size version of Barbie’s bedroom and touch screen games where you can choose a career for your Barbie and help her select the perfect outfit for her day.
