Food and cocktails in Rome’s Via Ostiense
One of Rome’s newest bistros, BIG8, recently opened its doors on the 14th of March. This hip, food and cocktail bar, located in San Paolo just a short walk from the Marconi Metro station, offers a variety of fried foods, pasta, burgers, meat, fish, desserts and cocktails.
The name BIG8 comes from a play on words of the Italian translation of “grande mangiata” or big ‘eat’. The menu is based on “pop food” with the intention of the dishes being lively, light and carefree. Whether you are in the mood for a Roman classic, such as carbonara, or want something a little meatier, like the beef filet burger, there are options on the menu for everyone. “The main focus is on the quality of the food” as said by the owner himself. With each dish, only the highest quality ingredients are used.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is bright and welcoming with clear panels surrounding the entire street side of the restaurant and a large outdoor patio with plenty of dining space to enjoy the weather once it warms up. The bar is also conveniently located for drinks as it’s directly in the front of the entrance and situated between the two main dining areas. Should you find yourself waiting for friends or a table, it’s a great place to pass the time. You can even stop by Tuesdays and enjoy 50% off cocktails.
Big8 is a restaurant in which you can feel at home once you walk in and know you will only get the freshest ingredients with your meal. They are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner however they are closed during lunch hour on Sundays. If you simply want to stop by to relax and have some cocktails with friends, watch a sporting event or enjoy a tasty meal, the doors are always open.
