Make New Year’s Eve in Rome unforgettable with our tips for Rome’s public celebration extravaganzas with fireworks, street parties and massive live music concerts
Rome is ready to let loose this New Years Eve, with partying and rejoicing at the city’s legendary monuments. The nerve centre of the festivities will take place at Circo Massimo (Circus Maximus) with a free music marathon of five major artists on the Italian music scene: Malika Ayane, Niccolo Fabi, Radici nel Cemento, Daniele Silvestri and Nina Zilli. TV presenter Gioia Marzocchi will host the night’s festivities, which will kick off at 9.30pm with Radici nel Cemento, a popular and boisterous reggae group from Rome. Minutes before midnight mayor of Rome Ignazio Marino will make a special appearance to ring in the New Year. Afterwards DJ sets will continue the party late into the night.
A short walk away, the Roman Forum will host a riot of colourful and creative street theatre shows, live music concerts and fireworks display organised by the Council of Rome (10pm 31 Dec 2013-1am 1 Jan 2014). The grandiose hi-tech fireworks show will kick off at midnight, with a soundtrack synchronized to the show along the stretch ranging from Piazza Venezia and Largo Corrado Ricci. Expect the crowds to be just as grand scale, but then it will all add to the exciting and electric atmosphere!
