The world class Accademia di Santa Cecilia will host an eclectic concert calendar at the avant-garde venue Auditorium.
In celebration for start of the New Year Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck will present an exalting sequence of Strauss together with Brahms’ ‘Hungarian Dance no. 5’ and Tchaikovsky’s ‘Waltz of the Flowers’. Happy New Year! (5,6,7 Jan)
The Stradivari Sextet, founded from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, continues the path dedicated to Johannes Brahms this season by performing his two Sextets for strings, considered among the masterpieces of the composer’s masterful chamber music (10 Jan).
A trio of dramatic performances conducted by Cornelius Meister, the young German conductor , will commence with the Freischütz overture by Carl Maria von Weber, a major work of German romanticism, followed by a Strauss horn concert and Carmina Burana, a profane vocal repertoire of poems set to music by Carl Orff (11,13,14 Jan).
The Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia will duet with a young prodigious talent, Chinese pianist Yuja Wang with an exuberance of personal flair. They will concentrate on the fast-paced Second Concerto of Prokofiev, one of the most challenging in the concert piano repertoire (18,20,21 Jan).
Kodo, a traditional Japanese drum ensemble will perform with influences from their native heritage of Sado island along with dynamic musical forms they have met with in their extensive touring since their debut in Berlin in 1981 (29 Jan).
