Annunziata.&nbsp; The festival \u2014 a longstanding Florentine tradition originating in the 17th century \u2014 is intended to celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary. It recalls the tradition of farmers who made pilgrimages to Santissima Annunziata to honor the Virgin Mary and used colorful lanterns at night to light their journeys. In the present day, this tradition is carried on as residents of Florence carry unique lanterns in a procession each year, lighting the streets of Florence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"10-carro-matto\">Carro Matto<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, at the end of September, Florence celebrates the <strong>Carro Matto<\/strong> \u2013 or <strong>\u201cCrazy Cart\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a tradition that has been carried out for centuries, honoring the transportation of wine from Chianti Rufina to Florence that began during the Renaissance to honor the Bishop and Signoria. The Social Hub\u2019s downstairs auditorium has been transformed into a <strong>fluorescent wonderland<\/strong>, where the lights are off but guests use <strong>neon paints on ultra-violet easels to light up the space<\/strong>.
