From Modigliani to Morandi<\/strong><em>,&nbsp;<\/em>which will be on display until <strong>15 September<\/strong>, offers a refreshing experience of art from the majority of pieces and statues from Renaissance and Baroque periods on display around Florence. The pieces, dating anywhere from the 19th to mid 20th century, adorn the Museo Novecento\u2019s walls for its ten year anniversary since they opened their doors to the public.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.romeing.it\/florence\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/modigliani-autoritratto.jpg\" alt=\"Returns. From Modigliani to Morandi, at Museo Novecento\" class=\"wp-image-5002\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Amedeo Modigliani, Autoritratto, 1919 olio su tela 100 x 65 cm. <br>Courtesy MAC USP Collection <br>[Museu de Arte Contempor\u00e2nea da USP Collection, S\u00e3o Paulo,Brazil]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition, which features <strong>notable Italian artists from contemporary and futuristic movements<\/strong> such as <strong>Renato Birolli<\/strong>, <strong>Morandi<\/strong>, <strong>Guttuso<\/strong> and <strong>Carlo Carr\u00e0<\/strong>, highlights the artist <strong>Amedeo Modigliani<\/strong>, and his complex life is embodied in his only <strong>self portrait<\/strong> from 1919, which hasn\u2019t been in Italy since 1946. The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of S\u00e3o Paolo, Brazil has displayed this piece since then, but donated it to the Museo Novecento to commemorate Modigliani\u2019s legacy and impact on Italian art.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As co-curator of the exhibition Chiara Toti explains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The works all once belonged to Alberto Della Ragione, a refined collector who, in 1930, was one of the first to dedicated himself to the purchase of modern artworks, contributing to the renewal of tastes in Italy, that were still stuck in 19th century painting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, this modernism is seen in<strong> Modigliani\u2019s self portrait<\/strong>. The blank facial expression and harrowing eyes, a custom of his unique style, effuse an entirely different mood than the intentional passion of renaissance figures.
