I Medici e le arti della ceroplastica<\/em> (\u201cWax upon a time. The Medici and the arts of ceroplastics\u201d)<\/strong>, the first exhibition in the museum entirely devoted to artistic wax production. The show is hosted in newly created ground floor galleries and brings together around ninety works, spanning wax sculptures alongside paintings, hardstone objects, cameos and more, to reconstruct a world that was once celebrated and then largely dispersed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Cera una volta. I Medici e le arti della ceroplastica (mostra\/exhibit)\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FytwximT5vs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-wax-and-why-now\">Why wax, and why now<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Wax is paradoxical: incredibly lifelike, intimate, and technically demanding, yet fragile and historically underestimated. The exhibition\u2019s core idea is to restore wax to its rightful place in the history of sculpture, showing how, in Medici Florence, it could rival more \u201cofficial\u201d artistic media in virtuosity and emotional impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key thread is also historical: much of this refined production was scattered after a major sale ordered in 1783 by Pietro Leopoldo di Lorena, which helped push this art form into the shadows.
