Just fifteen minutes on foot from the Ponte Vecchio<\/a><\/strong>, a leisurely stroll downstream along the Arno brings you to San Frediano<\/strong>, where Florence shakes off the tourist crowds and starts to feel like itself again. The UNA Hotels Vittoria Firenze<\/strong> sits quietly on Via Pisana at the edge of this neighbourhood, and its restaurant called San Frediano Bar & Restaurant<\/a> is the kind of discovery that makes you feel like a local.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch<\/strong> began with an antipasto that set the tone. The silky pumpkin flan in a fondue of Pecorino di Pienza and walnuts (fonduta di Pecorino di Pienza e noci<\/em>) was rich and earthy, the sweetness of the squash playing beautifully against the sharpness of the aged sheep’s cheese. A small basket of schiacciata <\/em>(legendary Tuscan dough), provided the classic accompaniment – unctuous, fresh, generously oiled and lightly salted, the kind of simple thing that\u2019s hard to do well and here was done brilliantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primo<\/em>, spaghetti with a shrimp tartare and bisque over a broccoli cream<\/strong>, showcased its ingredients, the bisque rich without overwhelming, the broccoli cream lending an earthiness. Both courses were paired with a Vermentino Pian di Seta IGT di Tenute del Cerro from Tenuta di Monterufoli in Tuscany, crisp, aromatic and just right for a winter lunch that felt like spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dessert was a revelation. A rosemary-infused panna cotta<\/strong>, finished with a pinch of fior di sale<\/em>. The cream is perfectly infused with fresh rosemary and the care behind the dish was evident in every spoonful. The herb lent a savouriness that cut through the cream, the flaky salt amplified it further, a creative reinvention of a classic that lingers in the memory. The meal closed with a perfectly piping-hot espresso, served alongside a selection of delightful little pastries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service was warm, attentive and unhurried. The interior is handsome, architecturally distinctive with a designer edge, well-suited to a lively lunch with colleagues or foodie friends. The real jewel, come warmer weather, is the outdoor patio. For romantic evenings, book a table outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant offers a reservable bistecca fiorentina<\/em> fixed menu<\/strong>, and seasonal dinners (Valentine’s Day, Women\u2019s Day, Easter) and the bar hosts lively evenings, such as a recent Carnevale party with a DJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authentic Florentine cooking, imaginative touches, a seasonal menu, and a sense of place. San Frediano has always rewarded those who wander a little further from the centre. San Frediano Bar & Restaurant inside the UNA Hotels Vittoria Firenze gives them a very good reason to sit down and stay a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
