Perhaps you’re on your honeymoon, perhaps you just deserve something decadent, perhaps you’re of the belief that ‘when in Rome, why not try the best?’. Well here are my top three choices for really living la dolce vita in Rome.
1. Lunch and Day Spa at Hotel de Russie
This luxurious hotel on the most glamorous street in Rome (Via del Babuino) is not like big chain five star hotels. It is elegant but intimate; modern yet feels like your own private villa in the heart of the city. It has a hidden terraced garden where you will find the charming restaurant Le Jardin de Russie. Enjoy the warm afternoons and dine in amongst the garden for lunch before retiring to the opulent day spa for a mind-blowing facial or massage. Then ease yourself into their famous cocktails and martinis at the inimitably chic The Stravinsky Bar. Great for escapism, celebrity-spotting and a touch of nature in amongst all the ruins and cobblestone of this city.
2. La Pergola restaurant
This three-Michelin-star restaurant is a dining experience like no other I have ever had anywhere in the world. Aside from the wine cellar with over 53,000 bottles and a water menu with 29 choices, internationally acclaimed executive chef Heinz Beck is a genius who creates food that is of the highest level visually and creatively but never compromising on taste. The service is out of this world and the view over the city from the Rome Cavalieri hotel is spectacular.
3. Andre Laug atelier
This atelier situated in Piazza di Spagna doesn’t even have a store as they do not believe in standardizing a cut and create every garment made to measure. Audrey Hepburn was a regular client and today they make gowns for Italian actresses, international royalty and even everyday people like us who just want something reasonably priced but bespoke for a special occasion. All Italian fabrics and all sewn by hand, this is the type of dress or suit that will last you a lifetime.
