Mercato Centrale di Roma One Year Anniversary

Mercato Centrale di Roma One Year Anniversary

Has it been a year already since the opening of Rome’s very own Mercato Centrale? Seems like it was only yesterday since the Roman location was inaugurated! Known for foodies as paradise on Earth and for Romans as a historical and architectural space that has helped re-qualify the Esquilino area, Mercato Centrale di Roma has a special place in everyone’s heart in the Eternal City.

Flocks of Romans meet daily at Mercato Centrale to taste delicious food or to buy fresh produce. But tourists are also mesmerised by the giant market in the Roma Termini station. Can we blame them? I’m guilty as well. How can you not be?

Come to Mercato Centrale and wander around the 18 shops, or botteghe, offering top-quality fresh Italian products. From pizza and focacce to trapizzinos and truffles, there’s something to satisfy anyone’s cravings! And guess what just opened on November 6th inside Mercato Centrale? Akira, Rome’s very own Japanese Ramen bar!

But on November 8th, it’s not just any typical day at Mercato Centrale di Roma. No sir, they have something special in mind to celebrate the one year anniversary of this hub of gastronomic delight! Prepare for an evening (and night) to remember, as the celebrations will last till the after-hours! The event is open to everyone and will involve not only Mercato Centrale but the entire Esquilino neighbourhood!

Apart from being able to taste a complimentary food specialty in every shop, Mercato Centrale di Roma will offer a glass of wine to all of its participants thanks to the collaboration with Feudi di San Gregorio and Vespa. But if you think that food and wine are the only protagonists, you’ve got it all wrong.

Mercato Centrale di Roma has decided to go big for its first anniversary. The event has a lot in store with its range of activities that will go on during the day, both indoors and outdoors, on the streets of the Esquilino neighbourhood and in the station.  Between 5pm and 7pm prepare for Stag, the Roman music band that will perform at Mercato Centrale’s first birthday celebration!

And expect activities ranging from music, art, cinema and theater, that will go on throughout the whole market – from the piazza all the way to the second floor – alternating moments of live painting, artistic performances with street artists and musical parenthesis.

Just to give you a little taste of the evening, imagine record players playing the interviewed guests’ favorite vinyls, projections of extracts of “Show Mas go On” – a feature film dedicated to the historic Mas shops of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele – along the director Ra di Martino and part of the cast. The list goes on, with movie director, Mimmo Calopresti, presenting  his new work on Abel Ferrara; Sonia Hang, restaurateur and testimonial of Gucci, and with The Spazio Fare docks dedicated to the most significant neighbourhoods, such as Discoteca Laziale, Esquilino New Market, Caritas, Le Danze di Vittorio association and Street Art hunters. In addition to a photographer for the event, a full photographic corner will be set up by IED, which will collaborate with Rome’s Mercato Centrale for many upcoming projects.

The second part of the evening will be inaugurated by Simone Sabatucci, one of the founders of Any Given Monday, and will follow with a performance by Mai Mai Mai and Francesco de Bellis. And to wrap it all up, a party organized by K-Party will last till the after-hours!

Come for the food, for the atmosphere, for the people, but first and foremost come celebrate Mercato Centrale di Roma, which has given back to the Eternal City a relaxing corner to celebrate Italian creativity, quality and food.
