The one and only date to see – together in Italy for the first time – Antonio Pappano and Diana Damrau, who the New York Sun has called “the leading coloratura soprano in the world”.
Diana Damrau made her stage debut in Würzburg at age 24, in The Marriage of Figaro, and ever since her career has soared. Interpreting the most famous female roles in the history of opera under the direction of conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta and Kent Nagano, Ms. Damrau has performed repertoire ranging from Mozart to Verdi, Rossini and Richard Strauss. A regular guest at NYC’s Metropolitan Opera since 2005, over the years she has also crowned the stages of La Scala in Milan, the Staatsoper in Vienna, Covent Garden in London and the Salzburg Festival.
The other headliner of this concert – commemorating the 150th anniversary of his death – is Giacomo Meyerbeer (Berlin, 1791 – Paris, 1864) one of the greatest lodestars in the history of opera, the composer of melodramas, music dramas and grand-operas.
