Head over to our romeing_magazine on Instagram to enter now through November 20 to win tickets for:
– 1 pair of tickets to the FRANCO D’ANDREA “TRADITIONS TODAY” on 24 November
Auditorium Parco della Musica – 9.00 PM
Pianist, musician, composer: Franco D’Andrea is an international jazz star. For the last fifty years he has brought around the world his profound, intense, wide-ranging, unusual, new, funny music. He has worked with such artists as Gato Barbieri, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Enrico Rava, Aldo Romeno, Dave Liebman and many others. Last year the magazine “Musica Jazz” awarded him the career prize and the Académie du jazz de France elected him European musician of the year. In this concert the piano-clarinet-trombone trio will prove to be a fascinating experiment. He intuitively understood that a piano and two winds representing the reeds and the horns of a band could form a sort of “concentrated band”. Combining the opposite timbres of clarinet and trombone with the rhythm, harmony and melody of the piano, the trio will play traditional jazz and swing in a modern key and focus on improvisation as well as on counterpoint.
– 1 pair of tickets to the ORCHESTRA OPERAIA “SWING & NEW DEAL” on 30 November
Auditorium Parco della Musica – 9.00 PM
Trumpeter, arranger and composer Massimo Nunzi strongly desired to create – and eventually did – the “Orchestra Operaia” (Working Class Orchestra), now a lively and active group on the Italian jazz scene. He was inspired by American cooperative orchestras after the Wall Street Crash in the 20’s: an extraordinary way to combine high-profile musicians, ideas, talents and music, exactly as in Nunzi’s project. His orchestra will perform precious and almost unkown arrangements from Newark University archives. Some are extremely rare, as the one written by Dizzy Gillespie for Woody Hermann, while others provide an overview of swing from the origin until the “progressive” version of Stan Kenton, great orchestra conductor who created a new swing style. The Orchestra Operaia will be accompanied by the acrobatic and swinging choreography of Lindy Hop’s dancers, precious period clips, and the voice of a narrator who will guide you through this journey into jazz golden era.
