- Additional information
So old that seems to be lost in ancient times, inherent to the identity of the Sardinians like a flag, the lapwing is a symbol of the whole Sardinia.
It is a refined ornament, that still nowadays adorns furnishings and artifact, that skilled hands have forged in the mystery of the workshops. It is one of the most recurring motifs of the Sardinian craft, and depicts flying animals, where the original designs are freely interpreted in hens or sparrows.
In many cultures the lapwing its associated to the Arabian phoenix rising from its ashes, alluding to the power of the spirit. It was then inherited by the Byzantine who occupied Sardinia since 534 A.D. until the Middle Ages.
