The Art of Construction in Spain

The art of construction in Spain at Spanish Royal Academy in Rome

This photographic tour that reconstructs and celebrates the most interesting aspects of the contemporary Spanish architecture, has chosen the Italian capital as the first stop in its itinerary that will lead it to different countries in Europe, Asia and Middle East.

Photography by: Ricardo Santonja.

Curated by: Alberto Cubas

Organized by: Spanish Cooperation through the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome. In colaboration with: Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in Italy.

The exhibition is the result of more than ten years research developed by Ricardo Santonja in the Superior Technical School of Architecture in Madrid (ETSAM), institution where he holds the position of teacher in the Graphic Conception department. The study is based on the potential of photography as a transmitter of architecture, always searching a self identity, that goes beyond the architectural image and shows the whole rather than just a piece.

We are faced with visual poetry, which develops, thanks to the camera usage, a pseudo pictorial abstraction that creates poems of light. A renovation of the visual language, capable of recalling emotions in the spectator that make him closer and familiar with the contemporary architecture done in Spain by Spanish and foreign architects.
