XXI Christmas Concert at Auditorium Conciliazione

The annual Christmas Concert is an important and unique musical event created in 1993 which unites various pop artists in a single TV product entirely dedicated to the celebration of Christmas. The event is usually combined with a charity cause. It is a television program that kindles the Christian spirit and Christmas traditions in an atmosphere full of emotions stimulated by artists coming from all over the world . The show is comprised of a children’s choir, a gospel choir, a chorus and a Symphony Orchestra with a rhythmic section accompanying national and international artists who perform live and in duo, trio, quartet etc. The songs performed are traditional Christmas melodies, pieces from the artist’s repertories and other tunes re-arranged for the grand orchestra. Also participating in the event are a presenter, a folk group, a well-known actor reciting a text with orchestral background, and dancers, all combined with a charity campaign for television.

For thirteen editions, from 1993 to 2005, the concert was held in the Paolo VI Hall of the Vatican. This stage, mostly used for the general audiences of the Pope, has hosted among the most prestigious Italian and international artists in the world, giving life to a concert format that broke the stereotypical traditional Christmas concert based on sacred music. The Concert in the Vatican was immediately approved and encouraged by Pope John Paul II, who, before every show, established the habit of welcoming the artists and the organizers for a special private audience in the Clementine Chapel. In 2006, the Concert moves to Monte Carlo and takes place in the Grimaldi Forum, under the patronage of Albert II, Prince of Monaco. In 2007 and 2008 the Concert gets back to the national borderlines and the XV and XVI editions take place in Verona at the Philharmonic Theatre. In 2009 the Christmas Concert takes place in Catania at the Teatro Massimo Bellini. In 2010 the Concerts arrives in Malta, after the invitation of the Government of Malta, and takes place in the Mediterranean Conference Center, in the presence of the President of Malta and the government delegation. In 2011 and 2012 the Concert gets back to Rome, and takes place in the Auditorium Conciliazione, near Saint Peter’s.
