The Galleria dell’Accademia and Bargello Museums introduce unified tickets and expanded opening hours, connecting some of the city’s most treasured artistic landmarks.

Visitors to Florence will now find it easier to explore some of the city’s most important museums.

As of March 15, the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze and the Bargello Museums have introduced combined tickets and unified opening hours, creating a more streamlined and visitor-friendly system.

The initiative serves to bridge seven of Florence’s historic sites, homes to some of the world’s most renowned artistic innovations spanning centuries. Among them is the Galleria dell’Accademia, home to David by Michelangelo – one of the world’s most recognisable sculptures and a cornerstone of the Italian Renaissance period.

Under the new system, there are two ticket options:

  • The first is a €38 ticket valid for 72 hours, which grants entry to five museums: Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Museo delle Cappelle Medici, Complesso di Orsanmichele, and Museo di Palazzo Davanzati.
  • The second option is a €28 ticket valid for 48 hours, which allows entry to only the Accademia di Firenze and Museo Nazionale del Bargello

The collections of these institutions are kaleidoscopes of cultural abundance, history, and reflection of what has made Italy’s artistic contributions so enduring. Whether through sculpture, gold painting, or historical artefacts, visitors will encounter beauty from a variety of mediums.

This museum system stands out for having the richest collection of Michelangelo’s works in the world, spread across the Bargello, the Accademia, and the Medici Chapels, as well as for the variety of its holdings: from sculpture to painting, from tapestries to musical instruments, and from textiles to decorative arts.

At the Bargello, visitors can indulge in the beauty of David by Donatello and the bronze Mercury by Giambologna. Meanwhile, the Medici Chapels preserve the memory of the family in the Sagresti Nuova, the centrepiece mausoleum designed by Michelangelo, decorated with his allegories of Day and Night.

The initiative also spotlights lesser-known attractions that are equally rich in history. The Complesso di Orsanmichele, which previously served as a grain market and is now a church, is home to commissioned works by Florentine guilds and the earliest examples of bronze and marble of the Early Renaissance. Palazzo Davanzati offers a glimpse into a Florentine Renaissance home adorned with frescoes and preserved interiors.

According to Andreina Contessa, Director General of the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence and the Bargello Museums,  the two venues “form a unified, polycentric museum system that brings together seven venues with distinct identities, histories, and collections.”

Opening hours of the aforementioned museums have been standardised from 8.15 to 18.50, Tuesday through Sunday (sans Casa Martelli and San Procolo, both of which are closed for renovations). The unification serves as a “coherent cultural project that brings visibility to special and still little-known heritage, telling the story of Florence’s arts across its various eras as a living, multifaceted organism,” continued Contessa.

The new ticketing structure reflects recent adjustments to individually priced admissions, which were introduced earlier in the year. However, museum officials note that the new multi-visit tickets are lower in cost than the sum of individual admission fees. It is important to note that access to Michelangelo’s Secret Rooms at the Musei del Bargello, priced at €32, remains unchanged and requires a reservation.

Tickets (both multi-visit and individual) are exclusively available through the Ministry of Culture, managed by Giunti-Opera Laboratori: through the reservation centre at +39 055 294883 and online on the B-Ticket platform and the following websites: galleriaaccademiafirenze.it/tickets or bargellomusei.it/biglietti.
