Circolo Scandinavo

Circolo Scandinavio

Circolo Scandinavo is located on the picturesque cobbled streets at the foot of Gianicolo Hill. The foundation was first started in the 1860’s, and its members have included the likes of Henrik Ibsen, Sigrid Undset and August Strindberg. Today, it is a historic cultural foundation and a home for Nordic Artists. Each month, artists from all five Nordic countries, and all forms of art, are given residency under the same roof to work on their projects.

The aim of the “Scandinavian Circle” is to strengthen and develop the individual Nordic artists’ work, and to increase dialogue between Nordic artists in an international context. Part of this goal is achieved by inviting Rome´s public to engage with the artists and learn more about Nordic culture. Anyone can become a member of Circolo, and doing so allows you access to antique books of the in-house Nordic library, invitations to cultural events and special discounts at many of the city´s cultural venues.
