Hosteria 87: traditional flavours in Via del Tritone

There’s a new place that immediately pops out in the heart of Rome, footsteps from Piazza Barberini. A place of contrasts – a place of traditions and modernity: Hosteria 87.

Step inside to find a stylish two-storey restaurant with a beautiful cocktail bar greeting you, and with swings to chill, sit and enjoy your drink outside. Walk down Hosteria 87 to stumble upon the meticulous open kitchen where you will see the chefs in action, and definitely don’t forget to take a look at the first floor, where a wall made out of travel suitcases reawakens your wanderlust gene!

But what immediately strikes the visitor is the contrast between the cozy restaurant dominated by warm shades, iron bases and lamps made of recycled materials, and its gastronomic proposal. As you glance at the menu, traditional Roman fare is the protagonist, with incursions into the Jewish tradition. As chef (or cook as she prefers to be called) Gioia Spizzichino says: at Hosteria 87 you’ll be taken back to your grandmother’s kitchen and taste those childhood flavours.

The quality of the ingredients is first class, sourced from top notch producers such as Macelleria Bombelli and the Antica Macelleria Latella from the Jewish Quarter. The bread comes in fresh every day from the famous Antico Forno Cordella and the pasta is sourced from Casoli del Pigneto. And lets not leave out the historic Casa dei Latticini Micocci that supplies the cheese!

What to expect on the menu? Meat dishes take the lead at Hosteria 87 with proposals like oxtail alla vaccinara, fired boiled meatballs and hunter-style chicken. The pasta dishes are Roman classics like mezze maniche alla gricia, cacio e pepe e carbonara. While the fettuccine 87 with veal meat and parmesan cheese are a twist to the classic white ragout pasta dish. There’s also an interesting wine selection to accompany your meal.
