Romeo and Giulietta Restaurant

Cristina Bowerman’s Romeo e Giulietta

Following the success of Romeo Chef & Baker in Prati, the restaurant spearheaded by Michelin star Chef Cristina Bowerman has relocated to the Testaccio neighborhood, where it now overlooks Piazza dell’Emporio. This isn’t your typical eatery, but rather a sprawling complex built for food discovery.

The first part of Romeo Chef & Baker is a space that combines both the bar and the pasticceria and deli where you can purchase the cheeses, meats, bread and wine that are also incorporated into the restaurant. The bar is interestingly lit by an overhanging white criss-crossed chandelier where the suave bartenders prepare your drink and serve you aperitivo snacks from the deli beside it. The bar features several classics along with house cocktails – their Giulietta, a tart mix of prosecco and grapefruit, is a delicious spin on the ever popular mimosa.

The restaurant Romeo is a tunnelled levelled hallway that extends behind the bar, and its dim lighting and industrial appearance with exposed red brick walls gives the space a certain character. We recommend their grilled rack of lamb with artichoke, a sumptuous dish with tender fall-off-the bone meat. Another interesting dish is their beef stuffed tortelli with creamy parmesan sauce and a refreshing kick of citrus. The restaurant offers a limited number of seats so we recommend you book in advance.

The other side of this complex houses pizzeria Giulietta. And to dispel any differences between which kind of pizza is best, the restaurant includes two ovens in its kitchen, one for the thick Neapolitan crust and one for the crisp and crunchy Roman crust.

The complex also includes a kitchen dedicated for events and cooking classes along with tasting rooms, conference rooms and a bakery workshop. There is also a space for Bowerman’s brand of artisanal gelato called Frigo, which will have its own entrance on Via Marmorata, 30.
