Rome’s MAXXI, or National Museum of the 21st-century arts, goes beyond art exhibits: it also hosts winter screenings of family-friendly flicks, documentaries, new releases, foreign and short films, and auteur works.

The proposals for this edition:

EXTRA DOC FESTIVAL: Italian documentary competition

Extra Doc Festival is a competition of ten Italian documentaries selected from world premiers and works that have come to light in main festivals. “Best Italian Documentary of the Year” and the best new “Extra Doc CityFest” will be awarded. The jury is composed of Giovanna Melandri (President of MAXXI), Mimmo Calopresti, Valerio Cappelli, Cristina Donadio, Nicola Giuliano, Margaret Mazzantini.

LOW FORM, LA STRADA, CINEMA E FOTOGRAFIA

The cinema that supports the museum’s proposals, on the technological and surreal imaginary of contemporary art (Low Form); on the road – as a place for sharing and innovation (La Strada); on cinema and photography (Paolo Pellegrin. Un’antalogia).

EXTRA SPECIALE E INCONTRI

Celebrations, tributes, readings and conversations with great authors and artists linked to the adventures and visions of cinema, open for dialogue with the curators and public of MAXXI.

David di Donatello Legacy

The Fondazione Cinema per Roma and MAXXI, together with the Academy of Italian Cinema – David di Donatello Awards, are reminiscent of authors, films and interpreters that the prestigious history of the Award has helped to discover and celebrate.
