I Cook In Italy: Cooking vacation in rome’s countryside

A Food & Wine Experience

If thoughts of carbonara are more thrilling than the Colosseum, consider a culinary holiday. “I Cook in Italy” organizes cooking tours for those eager to learn the art of Italian cuisine and wine. The adventure unfolds in Ciociaria, found just 1-hour south of Rome, an off-the-beaten-path town tucked away in the Roman countryside.

Ciociaria is known for its stunning landscapes and untouched nature, a far cry from the chaos and noise of the big cities (yet close enough to Rome and Naples’ main routes). Historical ruins dating back to the pre-Roman era stand alongside medieval abbeys. Iconic Italian actors like Marcello Mastroianni and Gina Lollobrigida also hail from Ciociaria. But it’s when we refer to food and wine that Ciociaria reigns supreme, thanks to its tradition of high-quality produce, meats, and cheeses, unsurprising of a land that has more or less avoided mass tourism and commercialization.

So what to expect on your cooking vacation in Italy? Accommodations in a luxurious, renovated 18th-century palazzo; cultural excursions around and outside of Ciociaria; culinary foodie field trips to the local farmer’s market and to the artisans behind Italy’s best-loved products; and fabulous dinners at both the palazzo’s dining room and authentic, local restaurants. Expect to put in some time in the kitchen, too. Talented chefs will impart their culinary skills and secrets in the palazzo’s professional kitchen, teaching you how to make delectable appetizers, fresh pasta, meat, fish, and side dishes, as well as Italian desserts.
